As a colonial era city able to trace its roots back to 1670, Charleston SC has long been a popular destination drawing history enthusiasts from around the world. Its rich history includes a role in the American Revolution, an Antebellum era boom, leading the charge in the Civil War, and surviving the post war era and desegregation which changed the fabric of the South and the face of the city. Thanks largely to a strong preservationist movement, much of this history has been preserved in the city's building, plantations, landmarks, and monuments. With a seemingly limitless number of historic attractions it can be tough to select a few to include in a visit to Charleston. We've taken the liberty of putting together an itinerary sure to please the history lover in your group.
It's no surprise that the center of life on Folly Beach SC is aptly named Center Street. This is, after all, the "main drag" of this charming, beachside town, known locally as the spot that offers some of the best surfing along the eastern seaboard and refered to in travel publications as "The Edge of America." Center Street is home to much of the local shopping, dining, and nightlife that this funky surf town has to offer. As the singular road onto and off of the island, it divides the island neatly in two, East and West, stopping only when it reaches the ocean. The eastern side is home to popular surf spot "The Washout" and scenic Lighthouse Inlet which, at the northernmost tip of the island, offers amazing views of the historic Morris Island Lighthouse. The west end of the island is home to the beautiful Folly Beach County Park. And from Center Street, you're close to EVERYTHING!
We recently developed a relationship with a local couple in their search for a new vacation rental management company for their two Folly Beach homes. With a list of criteria for their new management company, we were happy to meet their needs and welcome the two stunning homes into our portfolio. The two, side-by-side, 4-bedroom homes are located just across the street from the beach, and with their expansive two-level porches, you can enjoy ocean views from just about anywhere in either house! Each home offers their own experience with different decor and layout, but exceptional water views.
Vacations and margaritas go together like limes and tequila. Whether you like yours "blended & frozen," or "on the rocks," this classic cocktail is a popular staple of any beach vacation. Anyone who loves a good marg will tell you, there's simply nothing worse than a weak margarita, and oftentimes, using a top shelf tequila is key to getting it right. These longtime local favorite Mexican spots serve up the best margaritas in the Lowcountry.
We can all agree, brunch is a staple of any good vacation. The mid-morning combination of breakfast and lunch, with a tasty cocktail, is hard to beat. This is even more true in a foodie destination such as Charleston, where seemingly every restaurant serves up their own unique twist on southern breakfast favorites. From elevating humble grits to incorporating locally caught seafood into traditional egg dishes, or a dish of oysters plated over ice, Charleston knows how to do brunch. It wouldn't be a southern brunch without a cool, sippable cocktail, like the over-the-top Bloody Mary garnished with okra, pickles and even bacon, or the bottomless pitchers of bubbly mimosas. In no particular order, here are our top 7 "lesser-known," but still savory and scrumptious brunch spots in Charleston SC:
We are thrilled to introduce our newest Folly Beach SC vacation rental, Helena's Hideaway! A few blocks back from the beach, you'll find this colorful and modern retreat, tucked away on a quiet road surrounded by tranquil wooded and marsh views. The owners of this home have a unique story and our relationship with them began as they were searching for a second home to their primary residence in England. After they fell in love with Charleston, they found Folly Beach to be the ideal location for their home away from home.
